Currently, the monastery ruins in Berlin are used for the presentation of contemporary art as well as event programmes that bring the historical site and contemporary social issues into dialogue. With the current debates about the historic centre of Berlin and the urban development plans around the adjacent “Molkenmarkt”, the monastery church is once again moving more into the public eye. Archaeological explorations of the historic monastery complex have discovered well-preserved foundations of the cloister and chapter house on the north wall of the ruin, which tell Berlin’s urban history and must be preserved. Since 2016, the Mitte district office has been in charge of the programmatic management of the monastery ruins. The site is open from Monday to Sunday with free admission from 10 am to 6 pm. We look forward to your visit!
