Kerstin Decker: Das Graue Kloster von Berlin. Biografie eines wiedergefundenen Ortes
Booklaunch
With Kerstin Decker, Ute Müller-Tischler, Gunnar Nath, Philipp Oswalt, Jan Wenzel, moderated by Maximilian Krämer
To kick off the event, publisher Jan Wenzel of Spector Books and editor and department head Ute Müller-Tischler will discuss the book’s unique design concept. Following that, author Kerstin Decker will read selected passages from the book and offer insights into the research and writing process. In the subsequent discussion with co-editor Philipp Oswalt, an architect and member of the Berlin Academy of Arts, as well as archaeologist Gunnar Nath (Berlin Heritage Authority), the participants will also turn their attention to the present. Plans for the development of the neighboring Molkenmarkt are moving forward—but what are the visions for the area around the monastery ruins? Will the history of the site be visible there again? The book also offers a glimpse into this.
Kerstin Decker’s cultural-historical narrative brings one of Berlin’s oldest architectural monuments to life. At the same time, the publication is a formal experiment that, through the interplay between author, photo editor, and designer, develops a kind of archaeological method that explores urban space and its history beyond the well-worn routines of city guides.
The book will be available for purchase at the event. For more information and a preview, visit the publisher’s website:
