Under the Cloak of Night: Radical Fiction

Film programme curated by Azin Feizabadi

Event

18 July 2025, 21:00 Free admission

“Under the Cloak of Night” is a phrase used to describe events that unfold in darkness, under the shadow or in secrecy. As moonlight takes the sky after the setting sun, monsters and creatures stir beneath the bed. Hidden layers start to peel; nature crawls out of its hiding places, because it cannot stay fixed. Dreams reveal themselves, memories from the past resurface, and the rubble and debris of histories begin to speak. On such a night, a projection can throw all of this into view – a sight of a captive cycle of the past – offering a look from the vantage point of the future.

On July 11th and July 18th, two short film programs will be presented as open-air screenings on the occasion of Neda Saeedi’s Monument of Oblivion: River of Lethe at the Klosterruine. Both programs are titled UNDER THE CLOAK OF NIGHT, with TOTAL RECALL screening on July 11th and RADICAL FICTION on July 18th. These compilations – spanning video art, essay films, documentary and fiction – take the site of the Klosterruine, the questions and the multiple references embedded in the installation as their starting point. From there, they expand, reimagine, and engage in associative or direct dialogue from a variety of artistic angles and across personal, local and historical perspectives.

More information on the film program coming soon. Stay tuned!
