Mira Mann’s performance objects of the wind II revolves around questions of transcultural relationships and the resulting ruptures between experience and memory, reality and fiction. The performance uses percussion sounds as a form of musical storytelling: drum sounds meet Korean pungmul drums and create multi-voiced soundscapes that tell of abandonment, sorrow, devotion and transformation.

Mira Mann interweaves drum rhythms, Korean pansori motifs, traditional dance and call-and-response elements to create resonant spaces for collective memory, diasporic experience and mythological narrative. Rhythm, song and movement are used to imagine spaces where different temporalities come together.

In addition to percussionist Domi Chansorn, Mira Mann works with two Berlin percussion ensembles, including the Verein Koreanischer Krankenschwestern, -pfleger sowie Krankenpflegehelfer*innen. Founded in 1972, the association is one of the oldest migrant self-organisations in Berlin, founded by nurses from Korea who initially came to Berlin as contract workers. An additional ensemble playing samulnori, a genre that developed as a stage form from pungmul and consists of four percussion instruments that symbolise the four weather elements rain, wind, lightning and clouds, will complement the performance.

The Verein Koreanischer Krankenschwestern und -pfleger sowie Krankenpflegehelferinnen und -helfer e.V. was founded on 30 September 1972, making it one of the longest established migrant self-organisations in Berlin. While the nurses from Korea initially came for a few years as contract workers, many of them decided to stay permanently. Since 1997, the organisation, which has around 300 members, has rented an office in the Intercultural House in Schöneberg. Mrs Young Woo Lee has been the association’s chairwoman since 2021. The association’s work focuses on culture and education..

Irene Markert, Yoo Ka Kim, Sascha Kunz, Limb Han Kyul, Jang Yeong-Cheol and Park Sunjeong joined together in Berlin in 2023 to play Samulnori and meet regularly in Neukölln. Among other places, they have performed in Berlin and Naples.
